The three-day International Trade and Industry Fair, ITIF-2004 Asia, began at Expo Centre here on Monday after its formal inauguration by Sindh Governor, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad.

Talking to reporters on the occasion, the Governor said that international trade and industry fair will boost economic activities in the province especially in Karachi.

He said that a number of international businessmen have set up their stalls at the fair which will help create better perception of Pakistan.

With the improvement of our perception the chances of investment especially by foreign investors will brighten, he observed.

He said interaction between our business community and foreign business people will also help transfer of technology, resulting in the improvement of our products.

"We can compete with the world producers by improving our products", Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad said.

Later the Governor went round various stalls and talked to the participants of ITIF-2004 and had an appraisal about their products on display.

He said that investment opportunities are growing in Pakistan and Karachi is emerging as an economic hub in the region.

He pointed out that besides provision of proper infrastructure and simplification of rules and regulations, the law and order conditions are also made conducive and today local and foreign investors were showing practical interest in investment.

The Governor said many multinational companies are expanding their existing organisations while new institutions and investors are also coming to the fore.

In this regard, he said, Karachi Stock Exchange and other indicators are reflective of positive responses.
