Next meeting, to deliberate on forthcoming sixth National Finance Commission (NFC) award, will be held in Karachi on February 05.

"All the five stake-holders including federation and four provinces will attend the meeting that will discuss a two-point agenda ie, what amount federation is going to disburse among the provinces, and how provinces will carry out inter-district distribution of resources," said Punjab Finance Minister, Sardar Husnain Bahadur Dareshak.

He was talking to reporters here on Monday after attending a seminar on "Role of Customs in the protection of the society" held in the premises of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in connection with International Customs Day.

Dareshak maintained that the federation had assured the provinces that all the issues would be settled by Mar 31 in an amicable way.

He hoped that Sindh and Balochistan would also reach some settlement over Gas Development Surcharge (GDS), while the federation had also asked NWFP, Wapda and Ministry of Water and Power to nominate an arbitrator, to settle the issue of net hydel profit.

At the seminar the LCCI Chief, Mian Anjum Nisar, talking about South Asia Free Trade Agreement (Safta), called for giving special care to protect the local industry.

He emphasised the need for taking all the chambers and stakeholders into confidence, while evolving any measures in this regard.
