Right-handed opening batsman Khalid Latif has been named Pakistan captain for next month's ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup to be played in Bangladesh.

Allrounder Salman Qadir has been named vice-captain.

According to sources in Pakistan Cricket Board, Khalid, born on November 4, 1985, has played 10 first class matches in which he has scored 300 runs at 16.66 average and 92 as top score.

He also played two Under-19 `Tests' against Sri Lanka in August last year in which he scored 99 runs at average 33.

In the junior one-day cricket, he has played eight matches in which he has scored 168 runs at 24 while in his maiden appearance for Allied Bank in this season's inter-departmental qualifying round, he scored 98.

Khalid has previously captained Pakistan on three occasions - on the tour to Malaysia in 2002 against Malaysia Under-17; Sri Lanka in August 2003; and in the Videocon Asian Under-19 tournament which was held in Lahore and Karachi.

Salman Qadir, in his junior one-day career, has played 10 matches in which he has scored 171 runs besides taking five wickets. In the only inter-departmental qualifying round appearance this season, he scored 102 in an innings.

Squad: Khalid Latif (Karachi) (captain), Adnan Zaheer (Sialkot), Abid Ali (Lahore), Jahangir Mirza (Lahore), Mohammad Asif Iqbal (Bahawalpur/Servis Industries), Fawad Alam (Karachi) (all batsmen), Zulqarnain Haider (Lahore) (wicketkeeper), Tariq Mahmood (Gujranwala), Mansoor Amjad (Sialkot) (both spinners), Usman Saeed (Rawalpindi), Salman Qadir (Lahore) (vice-captain) (both all rounders), Wahad Riaz (Lahore), Mohammad Riaz Afridi (Peshawar/Fata), Ali Imran Pasha (Gujranwala) (all fast bowlers).

Team management: Sultan Rana (manager), Aqib Javed (coach), Dr Sohail Saleem (team doctor).

Reserves: Hidayat Khan, Sohail Khan, Uzair-ul-Haq, Sakhawat Salamat.

The Pakistan cricket team will leave for Dhaka on the evening of February 8. The tournament will begin on February 15 and Pakistan will take on NPG on the opening day.
