The euro on Friday gave up its overnight weakness versus the rupee, recovering about one rupee worth at Rs 73.02 and Rs 73.30 for buying and selling, respectively.

The single European currency gained its strength on recovery of its lost ground in world markets, dealers said.

The dollar also recovered versus the yen on hefty intervention by Bank of Japan, they added. However, it was firmer versus the euro after European Central Bank (ECB) meeting as market participants assumed the output of the meeting was that ECB would tolerate a strong euro.

The rupee maintained its overnight levels in the kerb market versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 57.45 and Rs 57.55.

INTERBANK RATES: Heavy pressure on the buying side kept the rupee in the minus column in the interbank market on Friday, which lost four paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 57.46 and Rs 57.47, respectively.

Payment requirements by banks forced the rupee to give up its firmness versus the greenback, market players said.
