The board of directors of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) was told on Thursday that the company is going to sign an agreement with Askari Commercial Bank for payment of online billing and ATM prepaid cards shortly.

The meeting of the board of directors of Pesco was held here at Wapda House with Chairman Jamshed Savul in the chair.

Other members of the board including Chief Executive Pesco Brigadier Tahir Saeed Malik, Sajjad Ahmed, Dr Mir Hatim, Kaleem Hanfi, Chaudhry Riaz Hussain, Chief Engineer Samargand Khan, Chief Engineer Hidyatullah Khan Kundi.

Briefing the board of directors over the performance of the company, Chief Executive Pesco Brigadier Tahir Saeed Malik said that better strategy has improved the working of the company and sale of electricity has improved by 5.7 percent during last few months while recovery has been increased by 12.5 percent.

He said that the company has changed the past culture of repairing of transformers and now these transformers are repaired on the expenses of Pesco to restore the supply of electricity to consumers on emergency basis.

However, he said, in areas notorious for power stealing the same old system would remain continued.

The board of directors was told that load shedding has been completely abolished in the province and the system of power supply has also improved.

He said that such measures resulted in the substantial cut in the grievances of the consumers.

Similarly, he informed that through system improvement the performance of over loaded grid stations have also improved and a lot of new grid stations have been constructed in different parts of the province.

Brigadier Tahir Saeed Malik told the board that 584 development schemes have been completed in the Northern Areas at the cost of Rs 176.00 million while work on 1,469 other developmental schemes at the cost of Rs 1,050 million was in progress.

He said that 101 villages have been electrified during 2002-2003 by spending Rs 71.00 million while work on Rs 145.00 million 30 HT has also completed.

Talking about mega developmental schemes of the company, the chief executive Pesco said that work on Rs 1,200 million Daudkhel-Domail transmission line and Domail grid station and Rs 750 million Shahibagh-Sheikh Muhammadi transmission line and Shahibagh grid station were in progress.

He further informed members of the board of directors that the company has also started work on Ghazi Brotha-Nowshera-Shahibagh transmission line to supply electricity to NWFP from alternative source and work on extra-high voltage projects was also in progress, which will cost Rs 3,000 million.

Regarding construction of new grid stations, he told that work on 12 new grid stations has already been started while work on Rs 687 million 132 KV Katlang, Sarai Naurang, Madian, Warsak Road, 66 Hussai and 33 KV Patan grid stations will complete soon.

Similarly, the capacity of 132 KV Mathani, Batal, Warsak, Bara, Kohat, Bajaur, Karak, Charsadda, Kalaya, Sakhi Cheshma, Daggar and 33 KV Thakot have been increased after the installation of powerful transformers.

He said that the power transformer of Shabqadar grid station would also be replaced with the installation of 20/26 KV power transformer.

He said that the company has recently completed Dalazak, Warai, Rehman Baba, Ghiljo and Khawazakhela grids.

On this occasion, the board of directors was also given presentation on Wapda land assets and was told that in this connection a property management cell has been established last year to transfer properties to Wapda and then in the name of Pesco.

He told the meeting that Wapda power wing has purchased 5,657 kanal of land for the construction of Wapda colonies and grid stations and 3,800 kanal (67 percent) has already been transferred in the name of Pesco.

The board of directors directed to complete the transfer of the remaining land till the end of the current calendar year, saying that legal section of the Pesco would also have to play its due role in it to enable the completion of the process in due time schedule and let the completion of the privatisation process of Pesco in a better manner.
