Pakistan State Oil's employee recognition policies are the backbone of its strategic corporate initiatives, which have borne fruit keeping the company's profitability at record levels during this most trying period for oil marketing industry.

This was observed by PSO Managing Director Tariq Kirmani during the 'PSO Managing Director's Performance Award 2003' presentation ceremony held on Thursday.

The recipient of the award was Ms Romana Aziz Khan, executive, brand management & communication.

Kirmani said the sharp reduction in the consumption of fuel oil due to the conversion of a major portion of the industry in power projects to natural gas and hydel generation has been a massive setback to OMCs in general and PSO, being the largest supplier, in particular.

However, he said, the PSO has been able to not only absorb this shock but has, through aggressive marketing and prudent cost-effective strategies, increased its sales in White Oil products.

"All this has been possible because we have been able to gather a highly motivated team of professionals," Kirmani said.

He, congratulating all the nominees and the recipients of commendation letters, outlined the improvements brought about in the selection for awards, now in their third year.

He said the format has been changed and nominees are now announced first in order to generate interest among employees.

Earlier, executive-director, Human Resources & Services, Jalees A. Siddiqui mentioned that this time three finalists were chosen including Shahzad Manzoor, deputy general-manager (QA) and Iftikhar Ahmed, manager, financial reporting.

While Sohail Ahmed, Zafar Ahmed Khan, Abdul Qadir, Akhtar Zamir, Abdus Sami and Kamran Shahid were declared to the runners-up for the MD PSO Award.

The employees who won the commendation letters were: Asadullah Faiz, Khalid Saleem, Sarfraz Ahmed, Abdul Ahad Qureshi, Khizar Hayat, Mehdi Khan, Abdul Waheed, Tariq Khan, S. M. Haroon, Qazi Azizuddin, Muhammad Zamir, Abdul Hannan, Faisal Khalil, Kaneez Zainab, Naila Erum, Rizwan ul Haq, Anas Hamas, Julis Pinto and M. Maskin.
