Two cotton firms said Tuesday they have released new cotton seed varieties that both hope will lead to improved cotton quality and boost yields for American cotton farmers.

Delta and Pine Land Co said in a statement at the annual Beltwide Cotton conference here that it is launching two new cotton seeds and there will also be a limited launch for two other varieties in the 2004 growing season.

PhytoGen Seed Co, a joint venture between Mycogen Corp and J.G. Boswell Co, is releasing five new seed varieties. Mycogen is an affiliate of Dow Agrosciences, which is a wholly owned unit of Dow Chemical Co.

Delta and Pine Land is a commercial breeder, producer and marketer of cotton seed. It is based in Scott, Mississippi.

PhytoGen issued its release from Indiannapolis, Indiana.
