Domestic and commercial gas connections during the current year would exceed 300,000 in Gujranwala division, with the addition of 20,000 new connections this year.

According to sources, Gujranwala was supplied gas in 1971 via Lahore, and connecting pipelines were fitted according to the domestic and industrial requirements of that time.

Since then, however, there has been an average yearly increase of 5000 to 1200 gas connections, which has led to shortage of gas in several areas.
