The rupee on Friday lost 10 paisa versus the dollar in the kerb market for buying and selling at Rs 57.35 and Rs 57.40, respectively.

Market sources said that the rupee fell on increased demand for dollars.

The euro, however, recovered overnight gains in terms of the rupee for buying and selling at Rs 72.10 and Rs 72.40, respectively.

In the international markets, the dollar continued its weakness versus major currencies at the beginning of the new year.

INTERBANK RATES: The rupee commenced the new year on a positive note, showing no big variation versus the dollar in the interbank market for buying and selling at Rs 57.39 and Rs 57.41, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee failed to maintain upward journey, and depreciated its value by five-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Friday.

After substantial increase in dollar's supply, investors made fresh buying in anticipation of further improvement in dollar's rates. As a result of buying spree, the dollar closed at Rs 57.30 and Rs 57.38 on buying and selling counters, respectively, against Rs 57.25 and Rs 57.33 of Thursday, the dealers added.

Similarly, the rupee remained under pressure and showed significant decline in its worth versus the pound sterling. The British currency was purchased at Rs 102.20 and was sold at Rs 102.50 as compared with Rs 101.75 and Rs 102.00 of Thursday, the dealers added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee surged by 10-paisa against the dollar on the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday.

The dollar opened at the buying and selling rates of Rs 57.25 and Rs 57.35 against the last rates of Rs 57.35 and Rs 57.45, respectively.

Ever-favourite greenback did not show any further fluctuation in the last trading hours and buying and selling rates closed at Rs 57.25 and Rs 57.35, respectively.

Pound sterling opened at the buying and selling rates of Rs 102 and Rs 102.20 against the overnight value of Rs 101.60 and Rs 101.70 against the same previous rates. It did not witness any further change in the evening spell and buying and selling rates closed at Rs 102 and Rs 102.20, respectively.
